Emiliana Torrini
& The Colorist Orchestra
The Colorist Orchestra is the eight-headed ensemble of drummer Aarich Jespers (Zita Swoon a.o.) and percussionist Kobe Proesmans (Gabriel Rios). The group’s M.O. is nonconventional, adventurous music that also appeals to a wider audience. With conventional instrumentation (piano, strings and clarinet a.o.), supplemented with self-built percussion instruments (Jespers is besides drummer also an instrument maker) The Colorist builds their whole own and intriguing sound pallet with which they entice different artists to daring collaborations. Icelandic vocalist Emiliana Torrini enthusiastically engaged in such a collaboration in 2015 and let the group rework her songs. Previously she scored a worldwide hit with ‘Jungle Drum’, but it was mostly Torrini’s impressive voice and many other idiosyncratic songs that inspired the Colorist Orchestra to rework her work with a whole new sound pallet.
Now there is a second chapter in the collaboration, with a new album to be release in autumn as well.
The Colorist undresses Torrini’s songs to the core and only retains their essence and vocals. Musically a challenging balancing act, which draws Emiliana from her comfort zone as a singer, and which adds a new dimension to her songs. Always a surprising and captivating live experience!
