On her most recent album ‘An Evening of New York Songs and Stories’, Suzanne Vega revisits some of her most New York-centric repertoire in a stunning live recording. Backed by longtime guitarist Gerry Leonard, bassist Jeff Allen and keyboardist Jamie Edwards, Suzanne Vega gives classics such as ‘Luka’ and ‘Tom’s Diner’ and deep cuts such as ‘Frank and Ava’ and ‘Ludlow Street’ a new life. The mix of repertoire also features a cover of her late friend Lou Reed’s ‘Walk on the Wild Side’.
Bearing the stamp of a masterful storyteller who ‘observes the world with a clinically poetic eye’, Vega is widely regarded as one of the foremost songwriters of her generation and as a leading figure in the folk revival of the early 1980s. Rock-solid songs such as ‘Luka’ and ‘Marlene on The Wall’ have become part of the contemporary music vernacular and a strange little a cappella piece that was remixed by U.K. electronic dance duo ‘DNA’, became a major club hit. Her albums, including her self-titled debut, the follow up, ‘Solitude Standing’ and ‘99.9F’ have sold millions of copies.
Suzanne Vega will present ‘An Evening of New York Songs and Stories’, together with the band with whom she recorded the album, at MOODS! in the magical setting of the Gruuthuse museum.
