+ Jan Verstraeten
Twenty years after the closing concerts at AB and thirty years after winning HUMO’s Rock Rally, Noordkaap is back together. In the line-up with which the Dutch-language rock band recorded their greatest hits and best albums: Lars Van Bambost on guitar, Erik Sterckx on bass, Nico Van Calster on drums, Wim De Wilde on keys and Stijn Meuris on vocals. With a set list that summarizes ten years of Noordkaap and with the energetic sound that characterized the group at the time, the band comes to take over Bruges. Expect to hear classics such as ‘Arme Joe’, ‘Satelliet Suzy’, ‘Wat is kunst’, ‘Ik hou van u’, ‘Druk in Leuven’, ‘Panamarenko‘, ‘Een heel klein beetje oorlog‘, … The place to be is de Burg in Bruges on Saturday 30 July, for the sing-along moment of 2022!
In the magical universe of Jan Verstraeten, everything is just right. The music, his soft, kind voice, the masks, the artwork, the videos. It’s like looking straight into the mind of a real artist. His first EP ‘Cheap Dreams’, released through Unday (Flying Horseman, The Bony King of Nowhere, Trixie Whitley), made him Flemish music’s best kept secret. His stripped down Destiny’s Child cover garnered him airplay on Stubru and Radio 1.
Now we have the long anticipated debut album ‘Violent Disco’ (February 2022). It sees Verstraeten add to the orchestral ‘chamber pop’ of his debut EP, with funk and soul elements. It sounds as if The Black Keys and Damon Albarn made a seventies blaxploitation soundtrack. After a compelling passage in de Biekorf this spring, we gladly invite Jan back to present his record on de Burg in Bruges for MOODS!. As always, he tours with his full ‘orchestra’ to get the most out of his music live.
