After the release of her second album 'No Deal' in 2014, Melanie De Biasio was instantly categorized as 'the best jazz has to offer on a global scale', a.o. by BBC-guru Gilles Peterson. Almost three years later, the Belgian vocalist/flutist is ready to conquer the world once again with successor 'Blackened Cities', released last year on Play It Again Sam. The song, 24 minutes and 16 seconds long, outlines a raw image of her beloved hometown Charleroi. De Biasio's mysterious voice is often compared to the ones of 'grandes dames' Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and Beth Gibbons of Portishead. Elusive, atmospheric, warm jazz that really hits home.
